Once again Iaquinta Nation it’s fight night. For the third time in six months Al Iaquinta will step back into the octagon, this time against UFC new comer Kevin Lee. Unlike his last fight far away from home in England, this time Iaquinta will have an entire Iaquinta Nation army in his corner of friends, family, and teammates making the quick trip from New York to New Jersey. Iaquinta looks to keep the momentum going against a tough but inexperienced Kevin Lee.
Al has bounced around a lot in the past six months. Taking fights against Ryan Couture in Wisconsin and Piotr Hallman in England both on short notice. For Iaquinta this scenario was perfect. A fight to kick off Superbowl weekend right in his backyard, having another opportunity to further showcase his skill set. He’ll face a hungry Kevin Lee looking for what would be his first UFC victory. Lee has come off at times as cocky and even a bit full of himself. It will be interesting to see how he’ll fair against a higher level of opponent. Unfortunately for him that opponent is Iaquinta, who will not be looking to give Lee a warm octagon welcome.
Earlier in the week Urijah Faber spoke with Newsday regarding Iaquinta. “He has all the makings of a champion” Faber said. “He has a super strong work ethic and he believes in himself. I have a lot of confidence that guy is going to continue to rise to the top of the sport.” It’s that work ethic that’s gotten Iaquinta to the position he’s in today, but even he knows there’s always more work to be done. Al continues to work hard and remain dedicated day in and day out, which only helps add to the confidence that Faber spoke about. That’s been reflected in his game as he looks more impressive each fight.
Putting it all aside we know that tonight is all about Iaquinta and Kevin Lee. Iaquinta takes the momentum from his past two fights and will carry it into tonight. Expect to see a focused and determined Iaquinta looking to send a message as he continues to make his name in the light weight division. If you can’t make it to the Prudential Center be sure to tune in on Fox Sports 1. Iaquinta is geared up to put on a show. Get excited Iaquinta Nation, it’s fight night. Let’s go to war!
