Long Island MMA fans we’re excited to see Serra Longo’s Chris Weidman and Al Iaquinta on the same card Memorial Day weekend. Weidman was set to defend his middle weight title against Lyoto Machida, and Al Iaquinta will take on Mitch Clarke. Unfortunately a knee injury has forced Weidman to withdraw from the fight. The injury will require Weidman to undergo minor knee surgery to his meniscus. The title fight has been moved to UFC 175 on July 5th. We wish Weidman a quick recovery. A new main event has not been announced yet for UFC 173.
Iaquinta on the other hand is still geared up and looking forward to stepping back in the Octagon at UFC 173. You’ll notice some other familiar faces on the card as well. Mike Chiesa who Al met in the TUF Finale, Vinc Pichel who Al beat in the Semi finals of TUF Live, Sam Sicilia who fought on the show for Team Cruz, Piotr Hallman who Al beat a few months ago in England, as well as Anthony Njokuani, who Al was originally scheduled to fight before an injury forced him out of there match up in England. Lots of familiar faces all fighting at Lightweight with the exception of Sam Sicilia who will fight at 145 lbs. Here’s the current scheduled line up.
Al Iaquinta vs. Mitch Clarke
Mike Chiesa vs. Francisco Trinaldo
Anthony Njokunani vs. Vinc Pichel
Piotr Hallman vs. Yves Edwards
Sam Sicilia vs. Dooho Choi
