Iaquinta Nation

On September 5th Al Iaquinta(8-3-1) will step back into the octagon against Rodrigo Damm(12-7). The fight will take place at Foxwoods Resorts and Casino in Connecticut as well as LIVE on Fox Sports 1. Both Iaquinta and Damm will enter the fight with a bit of a chip on their shoulders, both coming off somewhat surprising losses. Iaquinta being chocked out via D’Arce by Mitch Clarke, and Damm lossing to Rashid Magomedov by unanimous decision. Before that, both fighters we’re riding respected win streaks that came to a halt. Look for Iaquinta and Damm to both be highly motivated and looking to get back into the win column at UFC Fight Night 50.

A matchup between Iaquinta and Damm is a very interesting one stylistically. Both fighters have an impressive wrestling background but have also shown significant power in their striking. Each are extremely versatile in their BJJ game as well. Iaquinta a purple belt and Damm a black belt.

It will be interesting to see in what direction the fight goes. With both fighters likely respecting each others wrestling and ground game, look for the fight to potentially turn to a stand up war. Damm comes into the fight recording 6 of his 12 professional wins via submission, another key to watch for in this fight. The matchup has the makings to be a very exciting fight.

Damm, a native of Brazil has not fought in the United States in over two years. The Brazilian like his opposition Iaquinta recently appeared on TUF Brazil. After traveling around for several fights from Milwaukee, England, Las Vegas, and even close by in Jersey, Iaquinta once again gears up for a fight close to home right in Connecticut. When he does you’ll see a very focused fighter. Iaquinta has been putting in the work, and will look to rebound in a big way come September 5th.
