Walk us through the past few weeks. First you were supposed to take Paul Taylor’s spot and fight Anthony Anjokuani. Then Anjokuani got hurt. Now it’s your opponent that’s been changed.
It all happened pretty quickly. Now I’ll be fighting Piotr Hallman. I was back in the gym right after my fight, no layoff as far as training. I really didn’t have a chance to specially train for Anjokuani because within a few days he was out and Hallman was in.
Tell us your initial thoughts on your new opponent Piotr Hallman.
He’s a very durable fighter. He always comes in in great shape and is bigger for 155. Hallman’s a well rounded fighter, always a gamer.
He’s known for his ground and pound and strong right hand. What’s your strategy going into the fight?
The way he fights doesn’t change my strategy. I’ll look for what he does well, implement my game plan, and have an answer for it.
How important is it for you to come in and follow up your impressive August fight with another big win?
I definitely want to feed off that win against Couture and get another “W”. I think Hallman is a great opponent to show case my skills. I’m looking forward to getting back in there and following up August’s fight with another dominant performance.
Tell us about going to England. Any challenges fighting out of the country? How far in advance will you go to the UK?
I’ll get to England the Tuesday before the fight. I need to make sure I acclimate to the time change. Before I leave I’ll start to wake up earlier and go to bed earlier. This way the first day I’m there I’m on there time schedule.
Anything different this time around as far as training.
No changes. Same crew Ray Longo, Serra, and Eric Hyer. All the guys from the gym have been great with helping me get prepared for this fight. I’ve been working on my wrestling with Weidman and Bowman as well. This is going to be an exciting fight make sure to check it out October 26th LIVE on Facebook!

Unfortunately most of us aren’t going to be able to make the long trip to England at the end of the month to see Iaquinta vs. Hallman. I’m currently in the processes of setting up a viewing party at McCann’s Pub and Grill in Massapequa. McCanns was the home for viewing all of Al’s fight’s while he was on TUF Live. Check back here within the week about details for an open bar and viewing party for the day of the fight. This is a great opertunity to get everyone together and watch the fight. This will be a DAYTIME open bar on October 26th due to the time difference. Any questions please feel free to send them my way at MattPellicane@gmail.com I’ll be putting a Facebook event together to get out some more details soon. Looking forward to getting everyone together for the fight.
Late Tuesday it was announced that Al Iaquinta’s October opponent Anthony Njokuani was forced to pull out of next months fight. Twenty four hours later Iaquinta has a new opponent for UFC Fight Night 30, Poland native Piotr Hallmann (14-1, 1-0 UFC). Hallmann recorded his first UFC victory earlier this month with a submission over Francisco Trinaldo. Iaquinta will look to build off of his impressive win last month over Ryan Couture, looking to carry that momentum into this fight. Check back here later today for a full fight preview as well as an interview with Iaquinta.
Please feel free to disregard any links to any articles I posted yesterday. It now appears we’ll be talking about an entirely different opponent for Iaquinta for UFC Fight Night 30. News broke late Tuesday that Anthony Njokuani had suffered an injury and would be forced to pull out of the October 26th fight. Originally Njokuani was scheduled to fight Paul Taylor who had to pull out of the fight himself after suffering an injury. Iaquinta was quickly asked to take his place following his impressive win over Ryan Couture last month. Now UFC will have to seek out a new opponent for Iaquinta. As of now Iaquinta is still scheduled to fight on the card. Be sure to check back here for updates on a new opponent.
In case you missed them here’s a few articles to read up on regarding Iaquinta vs. Njokuani at UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Munoz next month. One from our buddy Mark La Monica over at Newsday as well as an exclusive article from Fight Line’s website as well. As always be sure to check back here for constant updates and information. Have a question for Al? Send it to MattPellicane@gmail.com Keep an eye out for an interview here with Al in the next few days.
For the second time in just a few short months Al Iaquinta will take a fight on short notice. On October 26th Iaquinta will step in and take on Anthony Njokuani at UFC fight night in Manchester England. Iaquinta is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win last month over Ryan Couture. Njokuani has fought in in WEC as well as UFC and comes in with a 17-7 record (3-3 in the UFC). Originally Njokuani was scheduled to fight Paul Taylor who was injured training last week. Wednesday Iaquinta got the call to step in and make the trip to England for the fight. Another great opertunity for Iaquinta to take a fight on short notice and follow last months impressive victory with another one. Check back here for a full story and fight preview this upcoming week. We’ll have some interviews from Al as well. All of Iaquinta Nation is excited to see Al get right back in there next month.
Domination. It’s the perfect word that everyone keeps using to describe “Raging” Al Iaquinta’s performance Saturday night. “I think I’m going to dominate everyone, that just how I think” Iaquinta said. For three rounds Iaquinta did just that, dominating his opponent Ryan Couture. The fight was about as solid of a performance as you could ask for, ending off with a beat up, broken down Ryan Couture and an impressive unanimous decision win for Iaquinta. For Al it’s his first official UFC win, and one that reminded fight fans and everyone in the lightweight division that he’s the fighter to watch out for. Continue Reading
