Iaquinta to take on Perry at Submission Underground 11

“Raging” Al Iaquinta will take on “Platinum” Mike Perry but not in the setting you may be expecting. Iaquinta will meet Perry in a grappling contest at Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground. The match will take place February 23rd at the Roseland Theater in Sonnen’s hometown of Portland Oregon. Sonnen held several of these events from July 2016 to April 2018. This will be the first event since that April. Submission Underground (SUG) is a submission only format with the rules being similar to those familiar with Eddie Bravo’s “Eddie Bravo Invitational. The organization has raised a significant amount of interest with grappling and MMA fans and competitors. SUG 11 will be headlined by a Tag Team match between Nick Rodriguez and Craig Jones taking on Vinny Magalhaes and Kyle Boehm. Continue Reading

Ultimate Fighter 17 premiers tonight

The newest season of the Ultimate Fighter starts tonight at 8pm on FX. The show moves back to a midweek spot for the first time in two seasons since making the switch to the FX Network. 28 Middle weights will fight for a chance to get into the TUF House. They’ll be coached by UFC Light Heavy weight champion Jon Jones as well as Chael Sonnen. Sonnen has the reputation of being a very controversial and outspoken character, making him one of the most intriguing coaches on the hit reality show yet. Al’s Predictions for UFC 148

Tonight LIVE on PPV will be UFC 148, a card that many are calling the event of the year, and others are calling the biggest UFC in history. In the main event Anderson Silva will take on Chael Sonnen for the middle weight title. It’s no surprise that these two guys despise each other. Sonnen is the only guy to ever step into the octagon and beat up Anderson Silva. The last time the two fought Sonnen controlled the fight for four and a half rounds and then got caught in a submission late in the fifth round. The fight, if it lives up to all the hype(and I think it will) has the makings of being one of the greatest rematches ever. Both guys, especially Sonnen have done a lot of talking, but now it’s time to stop all the games and for these guys to settle this once and for all. The fight’s going to be a great one. The card will also have the third fight, and “rubber match” between Forest Griffin and Tito Ortiz. The fight will be the final one of Tito’s career.
