Long Island MMA fans we’re excited to see Serra Longo’s Chris Weidman and Al Iaquinta on the same card Memorial Day weekend. Weidman was set to defend his middle weight title against Lyoto Machida, and Al Iaquinta will take on Mitch Clarke. Unfortunately a knee injury has forced Weidman to withdraw from the fight. The injury will require Weidman to undergo minor knee surgery to his meniscus. The title fight has been moved to UFC 175 on July 5th. We wish Weidman a quick recovery. A new main event has not been announced yet for UFC 173.
It looks like Chris Weidman won’t be the only Serra Longo fighter fighting on the UFC 173 card. Late Wednesday night it was announced that Iaquinta(8-2-1, 3-1 UFC) will take on Mitch Clarke (10-2, 1-2 UFC) on the under card of Weidman’s middle weight title fight against Vitor Belfort. The fight will take place on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday May 24th at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Iaquinta comes off of yet another impressive win at UFC 169 against Kevin Lee, showcasing his impressive skill set and durability throughout the fight. “Raging Al” comes into the fight riding a 3 fight win streak and looks to continue that run against Mitch Clarke. As always be sure to check back here daily for interviews, shirt sales, fight information, and much more leading up to the fight. Sit tight Iaquinta Nation we’ll be back in that octagon in just a few months.
Here’s a few post fight weekend links to check out to help you get through this snow day. Once again Al want’s to thank everyone for the support. Thank you to everyone who made it down to the Prudential Center on Saturday. Keep checking here throughout the week for more post fight coverage from Iaquinta vs. Lee
A lot of people have been asking for a link to the fight. UFC is pretty good at regulating people posting videos but here’s one full fight video I was able to find. Watch it while you can it may not be available for too long.
Follow that up with Al’s post fight media interview to hear his thoughts on the fight, and then cap it off with a great article from our friend Mark La Monica over at Newsday. Enjoy!
Another tough fight, another win for Al Iaquinta(8-2-1) last night at UFC 169. After a strong first round Iaquinta ran into a little bit of trouble in the second. Kevin Lee was able to secure Iaquinta’s back and lock in a rear naked choke. Al spent most of that round defending and was able to eventually work his way out of the dangerous position. The third round Iaquinta came out clearly on a mission, knowing he had lost the previous round. His dominance late in the fight lead him right to another unanimous decision victory to kick off the UFC Prelims. Continue Reading
Once again Iaquinta Nation it’s fight night. For the third time in six months Al Iaquinta will step back into the octagon, this time against UFC new comer Kevin Lee. Unlike his last fight far away from home in England, this time Iaquinta will have an entire Iaquinta Nation army in his corner of friends, family, and teammates making the quick trip from New York to New Jersey. Iaquinta looks to keep the momentum going against a tough but inexperienced Kevin Lee. Continue Reading
Posting picture for #TBT (Throw Back Thursday) has become pretty popular these days. Here’s a TBT that should get everyone amped up for fight night Saturday. I figured it was the perfect time since we’ll find ourselves right back in New Jersey on Saturday, not far from Atlantic City the home of Ring of Combat. The video is an exciting look into the first fight that was a real war between Al Iaquinta and Gabriel Miglioli at ROC 36. Some great highlights as well as comments from Al, Ray Longo, and UFC Middle Weight champion Chris Weidman following the fight. Enjoy and get ready for Iaquinta vs. Lee Saturday night!

Here’s a few articles to catch up on if you haven’t seen them yet this morning. If you missed it Sunday morning Al was in Newsday. Catch up on a great article by our Friend Mark La Monica. If you’re unfamiliar with Mark’s work he does an outstanding job writing for Newsday and has an incredible understanding and appreciation for mixed martial arts. Be sure to keep up with his work and follow him on Twitter as well.
If you haven’t gotten your fill after that check out another article from UFC.com from yesterday. The article does a nice job of putting Al’s journey from the Ultimate Fighter to present day in review, his thoughts on teammate Chris Weidman, and how important it is for him to be able to fight so close to home.
